Juvenile Offenders

The Central Shenandoah Valley Office on Youth offers a variety of programs and services to court-involved youth designed to deter juvenile crime and provide alternatives to detention.

The OOY offers a variety of services to individuals referred by Court Services Unit staff and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court judges. The Virginia Juvenile Community Crime Control Act (VJCCCA), which is overseen by the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice provides funding for these services.

The purpose of the VJCCCA is “to deter crime by providing immediate, effective punishment that emphasizes accountability of the juvenile offender for his actions as well as reduces the pattern of repeat offending” (Code of Virginia, §16.1-309.2).
