Juvenile Offenders

The Office on Youth offers a variety of programs and services to court-involved youth. These services are intended to deter juvenile crime and provide alternatives to detention.

 

Parent Support

All parents desire skills to be a good parent.  Seven (7) programs are offered to meet the needs of families.

  • Active Parenting is for parents dealing with such things as tantrums, chores, cell phone usage, sibling arguments, etc.
  • Parent Project and Loving Solutions are for parents of strong-willed and challenging kids.
  • For Kids Sake is for parents going through a divorce or separation.
  • 24/7 Dads is a program designed specifically for Dads.  Dads learn about the special role they play in the lives of their children.
  • Mom’s Inc and Dad’s Inc (Incarcerated) are classes offered to parents who are inmates at Middle River Regional Jail.

 

Substance Abuse Prevention

The Office on Youth works with Greater Augusta Prevention Partners (GAPP) to coordinate substance abuse prevention efforts in the community. GAPP activities include:

  •  anti-drug media campaigns,
  •  educational presentations,
  •  assistance with Drug Take Back Days,
  •  advocating for anti-drug legislation,
  •  supporting high school Student Against Destructive Decision clubs,
  • and more…

Teen Pregnancy Prevention

The Office on Youth has conducted teen pregnancy prevention efforts since 1995 with positive results.  OOY staff teach Family Life Education in elementary schools and sexual health education in middle and high schools as requested.

 

Youth Employment

The Office on Youth acts as of a “youth employment agency” in helping to prepare youth for the workforce by providing employment readiness training, on-site work experience, and assistance in securing employment.  This is a summer program only.
